My blog is a memoir called The New Girl. It tells of my beginnings in the Zambian bush, born into a line of intrepid explorers. Most of my childhood, however, is spent in the heart of England, an innocent convent girl going on to qualify as a doctor. Newly married, I leave career and chocolate-box cottage to follow my husband to the poverty of Uganda, ravaged by war and AIDS. The story is of how I am thrust into this crazy world, muddling my way as a young doctor and new wife, trying to be the best of both. Armed with dim memories of ancestral derring-do, a little knowledge and a lot of zest, I learn through my adventures in Africa where riches really come from.
